Fellows of the Travers Ethics Program

Alison Gash is a second year student in the PhD program for Political Science. Ms. Gash studies American Politics with a focus on public policy and public law. She is interested in the institutional impact on public policy development and implementation. Ms. Gash also works as a Policy Analyst for Social Policy Research Associates in Oakland. Prior to enrolling in the PhD program at Berkeley Ms Gash spent three years working in Washington, DC participating in civil rights advocacy and litigation. She, subsequently, earned a Master's Degree in public policy at Princton University and moved to Portland, OR where she spent three years working as a program director and policy developer for the region's Workforce Investment Board. Ms. Gash also has extensive experience working in local government and has worked on local and state political campaigns.

Peter Hanson will be a first year graduate student studying American Politics in the Political Science Department in the Fall of 2004. His working life has centered on his two great loves of teaching and politics. From 1996 to 2002, he served as a legislative aide specializing in environmental policy issues in the U.S. Senate for Democratic Leader Tom Daschle. In addition, he has taught history, English, philosophy and political science to middle and high school students. His academic interests include the politics of forestry issues, the media and public law. Other interests include scuba diving, choral music, and playing with his nieces and nephews. He is a 1995 graduate of Harvard University.

Rhianna S. Bauer is a junior Political Science major. She has been an active participant in Habitat for Humanity and the Berkeley College Republicans over the past three years at Cal. In both organizations she has taken on leadership roles, serving as President of Cal Berkeley Habitat in addition to sitting on the International Board with President Jimmy Carter and serving as secretary and opinion editor for the Berkeley College Republicans magazine, California Patriot. This summer, with support from the Travers program, Rhianna plans to intern in the California State senate.

Shane Goldmacher, a junior in Political Science, has worked as a newscaster for KALX 90.7 FM, the UC Berkeley Radio Station and written for the Daily Californian. Last summer he interned at KTVU Channel Two News, eventually becoming the assistant to their Political Editor, Randy Shandobil. He is now Editor in Chief of the Berkeley Political Review, having started out one year ago as a staff writer. Under his leadership the Berkeley Political Review won the award for Best News Magazine at Berkeley. This summer, with support from the Travers Program, Shane will intern at The Nation magazine.
